Please take the time to read and understand the following as they have been designed specifically for the safety and comfort of your cats while they are staying with us

Vaccination

CATS CANNOT BE ADMITTED TO THE HOTEL WITHOUT ADEQUATE PROOF THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST FELINE ENTIRITIS AND UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS (CAT ‘FLU) AS AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM.

Adequate proof usually means a veterinary vaccination certificate which we will photocopy and keep in your cats’ personal files. The vaccination must be renewed every year with a booster which will be recorded on your certificate by your vet so we will also need to update our copy to keep our records up to date.

Annual vaccination is essential to your cat to keep him or her safe and healthy, as well as a legal requirement for us

Health, Wellbeing and Medication

WE REGRET THAT FOR THE SAFTEY OF OUR OTHER GUESTS WE MAY HAVE TO TURN AWAY ANY CAT THAT WE SUSPECT TO BE SUFFERING FROM AN UNDISCLOSED INFECTIOUS DISEASE.

N.B. If your cat has an on-going non-contagious medical condition, we will be very happy to accommodate him or her. We are trained to administer most forms of medication including hypodermic needles, eg for diabetes etc, and will do so free of charge.

We do have an isolation pen separate from the main cattery where, subject to veterinary advice, we can accommodate cats with certain conditions such as feline leukaemia or hepatitis. If you are in this situation it is best to visit or telephone for a proper discussion.

When bringing medication or prescription food for your cat please clearly label it with your cat’s first name and surname (we have 10 Millies!). Please also bring a clear and concise note of instruction to go with it. We will then store the medication and the note in one of our medication drawers (unless refrigeration is necessary). This drawer will be designated as your cat’s own personal medication drawer for the duration of his or her stay.

In the event that a cat is taken seriously ill whilst staying with us, we will take him or her immediately to Elwood, Briggs and Turner Veterinary Surgery in Kirton or if necessary a vet will be called to the premises. If your cat is not usually a patient of Elwood, Briggs and Turner, we will usually take him or her to their own vet after the initial emergency consultation.

We will of course do all we can to inform you of any medical emergency as soon as possible.

Vet bills excess to the insured sum will usually be added to the final bill.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL THAT YOU INFORM US FULLY IF YOUR CAT HAS ANY KNOWN CONDITION WHATSOEVER WHICH MAY REQUIRE SPECIAL ATTENTION OR MEDICATION, OR OF ANY DIETARY REQUIREMENTS OR SERIOUS FOOD ALLERGIES. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES FOR YOUR CAT FOR WHICH NEITHER ABI’S HOTEL FOR CATS NOR ITS STAFF CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE

Neutering

WE PREFER ALL GUESTS OVER SIX MONTHS OF AGE TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED.

We cannot insist, but un-neutered Toms and Queens on the pull can be very noisy and smelly and if you are a neutered cat who has led a sheltered life their behaviour can be quite alarming!

More importantly it is much better for your cat. They will be healthier and far less inclined to wander or leave scent markers in your house or fight!

You will also be helping in the control of the ever burgeoning (and sadly not properly cared for) cat population.

Fighting

IN THE EVENT OF SERIOUS FIGHTING BETWEEN SHARING CAT FAMILIES WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEPARATE THEM FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY.

If this is the case, we regret that we will usually have to charge for the extra chalet to cover our costs.

Cat Carriers

PLEASE, PLEASE, BRING YOUR CAT IN A SECURE BASKET IN GOOD REPAIR.

We cannot accept any responsibility if your cat escapes from your arms between your car and our cattery!

If your cat really cannot cope with a basket we suggest a harness and lead as a viable alternative.
